The NWSL announced on Tuesday that a tenth club would be joining the league for 2016. The Orlando Pride would be the league's second expansion team and are owned and operated by Orlando City SC. Which sounds a lot like the NWSL's first expansion team the Houston Dash. Tom Sermanni was announced as the clubs head coach.
As with the Dash, Orlando will get players via Discovery Signings (domestic and international), Expansion Draft and 2016 NWSL College Draft. Last time the Dash were the team taking players this time they will be the team losing players (along with every other club in the league). When the Dash entered the league teams were allowed to protect up to two USWNT players which would mean the Dash would have to risk leaving one of their USWNT players unprotected as they currently have Carli Lloyd, Meghan Klingenberg and Morgan Brian on the roster. That is if the rules are the same but with the rules not yet public we don't know for sure just who the team might lose.
The new team won't have players allocated to them as was done when the Dash joined the league. The team will have to pick them up using other mechanisms.
The Expansion Draft will happen on November 2.
