RGVFC Press Release

The Houston Dynamo hybrid affiliate, USL side Rio Grande Valley FC officially got a nickname, colors and logo today. After months in the shadows, the club now has a colorful identity. Below you can see all the logos sent out in the team Press Release.

The name was decided upon by a fan vote, either via Twitter using the hashtag #RGVNameYourTeam or through the club's official website.

I love the horns on the logo because it adds some variety to the standard soccer shield, it's unique. And as far as the first time I heard the name, Toros, it just felt right on so many levels. For a sports team, a bull shows tenacity, aggression, energy, and power. For a Texas club,  also addressed in the official press release, it showed pride in the area's historically Hispanic culture and population. As a Houston Dynamo affiliate, the Dynamo colors are well represented in their new side's choices as well.

In case you missed it, earlier this summer the Dynamo, alongside the USL announced that the 25th franchise in the league would be awarded to the NBA D League's RGV Vipers owner Alonzo Cantu. It is a rare hybrid affiliation, meaning the Dynamo will run the soccer aspects of the club, while RGVFC will operate the day to day operations and business side. They are in the midst of building a gorgeous stadium in Edinburg, Texas that will seat 9,400 fans and is modeled after the Dynamo's BBVA Compass Stadium.

Stay tuned for my weekly pieces this season, The Bull And Its Horns, covering the RGVFC Toros for us here at Dynamo Theory.
