Three Dash Players Called Up to USWNT for Algarve Cup

United States head coach Jill Ellis has called up Morgan Brian, Carli Lloyd and Megan Klingenberg for March's Algarve Cup.

U.S. Women's National Team have called up Houston Dash midfielders Morgan Brian, Carli Lloyd and defender Meghan Klingenberg, head coach Jill Ellis announced Saturday.

Twenty-three players will join the United States in Portugal for the eight-day tournament. The U.S. are featured in Group B and will face Norway (March 4), Switzerland (March 6) and Iceland (March 9), in the preliminary stage with placement matches occurring on March 11.

Brian, 21, has earned 21 caps with national team, since making her debut in 2013 against South Korea in an international friendly. The University of Virginia product has scored three goals and was drafted No. 1 overall pick to the Dash at the 2015 NWSL College Draft.

Lloyd, 32, has 165 caps for the United States, scoring 61 international goals. The Delran, N.J.,  native was named MVP of the 2007 Algarve Cup and has scored 10 goals in the tournament.

Klingenberg, 26, has 25 appearances for the senior national team and scored her first international goal in a World Cup qualifier against Haiti last October.

All three players started in both of the USWNT's most recent friendlies against France and England, a 2-0 loss and 1-0 win, respectively.

The Algarve Cup marks the last international tournament before June's World Cup. Goalkeeper Hope Solo has also been reinstated for the tournament, ending her 30-day suspension.
