The Houston Dash started their 2015 season with two steady results. Last week at the Boston Breakers, however, the Dash were bested by one goal, snuffing out hopes for a longer undefeated streak. This week, the Houston team will be back on home turf, looking to defend BBVA Compass stadium against the NWSL 2014 champs, FC Kansas City.
While the Dash fell last week 3-2, Kansas City notched a 1-0 win against Seattle Reign. In a rematch of the 2014 championship game, Amy Rodriguez once again but her team up on Seattle. It was her one goal that handed the Reign their second straight loss in 2015.
Things to note:
Houston Dash defender Lauren Sesselmann will return to the roster and be available for selection for the first time this season. The Canadian international has been recovering from a ACL tear suffered on international duty with Canada last spring. After this game, she will join her Canadian teammates Erin McLeod and Allysha Chapman as Canada prepares for the Women's World Cup.
Another loss suffered during the game against the Breakers was the injury of Dash defender Stephanie Ochs. She picked up a knee injury early on in the first half when she went to block a cross. Without the versatile presence of Ochs in the back, Head Coach Randy Waldrum will have to once again find just what combination can work for the backline. This problem will also have to take into account players leaving for the Women's World Cup.
