The Houston Dash failed to score against the Portland Thorns for a 0-0 draw Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.
A penalty kick in the 54th minute proved to be the best chance of the night for the Dash. Houston was awarded a penalty kick after Melissa Henderson was hauled down inside the box by Thorns defender Emily Menges. Portland keeper Michelle Betos guessed right and dove to her right to deny Kealia Ohai's attempt at goal. Three minutes later the Dash found themselves on the break again, Ohai and Menges went down together in the box but the foul was whistled against Houston.
Just before halftime Jessica McDonald missed an open net from three yards out, after Tiffany McCarty's shot was blocked in front of goal.
Melissa Henderson left the match in the 72nd minute still reeling from the affects of Menges hard challenge. There has been no official word from the Dash on the injury she sustained.
The goal-scoring woes continued for Portland has they've scored one goal in their last four matches. Rachel Van Hollebeke intercepted a pass and played a ball into Allie Long. Long's shot on goal was combated by a sliding kick save from Dash keeper Bianca Henninger.
After the two-week World Cup break, the Thorns return to action June 19, at home against FC Kansas City. While the Dash close out their two-game homestand versus the Western New York Flash on June 20.
