With the 2015 Women's World Cup wrapped up, the U.S. Women's National Team taking home the top prize, the Houston Dash will be welcoming back international stars Carli Lloyd, Morgan Brian, and Meghan Klingenberg for their Sunday home match against the Chicago Red Stars.
Having the USWNT ladies back will be helpful against Chicago, who are currently leading the league. The Red Stars are coming off a win on the road against Sky Blue FC. The league leaders will also be welcoming back their U.S. International World Cup players; defender Julie Johnston, forward Christen Press, and midfielders Lori Chalupny and Shannon Boxx. Look for them to bolster the top-notch offense and defense that Chicago has been enjoying.
Along with them, Chicago has the forward prowess of Jen Hoy and the stability of keeper Michele Dalton in the back. Dalton made three saves last week to gain her third shutout of the year. However, with the return of their international player Chicago will get back goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, Melissa Tancredi and Adriana Leon
While the Red Stars are coming off a victory, the Dash ended their last match 1-0 on the road against the Washington Spirit, breaking their five-game unbeaten streak. However, with the Lloyd and Brian returning for the offense, Houston could turn around and produce quite the show for fans on Sunday. Klingenberg could help bring in a solid performance for the Dash's defense as well. With only one point standing between Houston and a playoff position, the game against the Red Stars will be very important for the Dash.
USA internationals are the only ones returning for the Houston Dash as their Canadian player's will also be returning as well. Erin McLeod, Lauren Sesselmann and Allysha Chapman will also be re-joining the team. Chapman has been nursing an injury and won't be playing on Sunday while McLeod is expected to regain her starting position as goalkeeper. The Dash have been thin in the back all season between World Cup call-ups and an injury to Stephanie Ochs which will likely see Sesslemann as a starter in defense.
It was announced Friday the game will broadcasted live on ROOT SPORTS, with a half-hour pregame show starting at 7 p.m. CT. The team also announced ROOTS SPORTS will re-air all six 2015 Dash home games to date in a two-day marathon on July 13 and 14.
The Sunday match will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
