The Houston Dynamo return to MLS play Friday against the Chicago Fire after tossing the Colorado Rapids from the US Open Cup in a very soggy 1-0 win late Tuesday evening. The Dynamo will look to use the win as momentum to make a push towards the playoffs after falling in their previous two MLS matches 2-0 to Portland and to FC Dallas.

Against the Rapids, Coyle fielded a largely reserve team featuring only a few regular players in David Horst, Kofi Sarkodie, and Leonel Miranda. The Dynamo's latest signing, forward Mauro Manotas, also played well scoring the game's only goal and could feature in a larger role against MLS regular season competition.

Coyle's Starting XI against FC Dallas

The Dynamo struggled against the technical prowess and speed that Dallas possessed, particularly through the combination play of Mauro Diaz and Fabian Castillo, and the lack of support on Raul Rodriguez's side was obvious. The Dynamo will have their Jamaican international players available in Giles Barnes and Jermaine Taylor while Brad Davis rejoined training the other day, however expect Davis's minutes to be limited if he manages to play. This opens up positions, once again, at the wide areas of midfields. With Rob Lovejoy currently sitting on a hamstring injury, Alex Lopez and Leonel Miranda are the likely candidates to replace them. However, Owen Coyle also praised the play of Alex, the former Chicago Fire player, who got his start in our Open Cup win over the Rapids at LM.
