The Dynamo’s road trip has gone from disappointing, to bad, to worse. Houston limped out of Colorado with no points Wednesday night, after blowing a 2 goal lead in Portland this past weekend.
The Dynamo began this road trip in New England, and suffered a disappointing loss after multiple rain delays, then flew all the way cross-country to Portland, where there escaped with a draw. Now, on short rest to be fair, they traveled to Colorado to face the worst team in the Western Conference.
20 minutes into the contest, a handball by Alex Lima gave the Rapids a penalty kick. Vincente Sanchez stepped up to take it for Colorado, and although Tyler Deric guessed right, he guessed low, and the ball sailed above his head into the top left corner of the net.
The Dynamo were not ones to be outdone with penalty kicks coming from opposing handballs. In the 35th minute, Bobby Burling of the Rapids was shown a yellow in the box for touching the ball, and the Dynamo captain stepped up to take it. Brad Davis’ shot went straight down the middle, and the keeper’s boot caught a piece of it, but it still went in to equalize at 1-1.
Houston struggled to keep the score the way it was after halftime but in the 79th minute Dillon Serna sent a wayward pass towards the back line but Sean St. Ledger was there to just barely whip it back into play, perfectly in place for Kevin Doyle to nudge it in the left corner with the side of his head.
Houston will finally end this disastrous road trip, in which they gained a whole 1 point out of three matches, on Saturday, when they take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BBVA Stadium.
