After a high scoring match, Houston came out on top on Saturday night against the Colorado Rapids.

It took the Dynamo 43 minutes to even take a shot in their last contest, but only two minutes to score Saturday night and they kept on scoring from there. While the Rapids were able to score a few goals of their own Houston managed to put more in the back of the net to get a vital three points on Saturday night.

With 2 minutes and 3 seconds on the clock, Will Bruin won the ball in midfield and juked past a Colorado defender to drive towards goal. Bruin handed it off to Barnes, who bounced it outside to Leonel Miranda, who lasered a beautiful far post strike through the Rapids’ defense.

Only six minutes later, Vicente Sanchez equalized on a free kicked that bounced through the Dynamo defense and past the fingertips of Tyler Deric. It wasn’t Sanchez’s only equalizer of the night. In the 43rd minute, a driving strike by Sanchez would hit the back of the net to give him a brace on the night, although it may have taken a bounce of the foot of Raul Rodriguez.

In the 24th minute, Will Bruin took a ball in the defensive third and sliced through the Colorado defense, the entire length of the field, and then slapped the ball left for Giles Barnes to tap in to take the lead, 2-1.

Two minutes into the second half, a few deft touches by Giles Barnes sent the ball out wide right to Leonel Miranda, who rocketed a cross across the box to Will Bruin. Bruin’s shot was deflected by the keeper, but Dynamo captain Brad Davis was waiting to bounce on the ball and bury the game-winner.

Unfortunately, the Dynamo’s efforts were somewhat mitigated by the Portland Timbers, who beat the Columbus Crew to stay ahead of Houston by three points.

Owen Coyle’s men will head to Frisco next, in a must-win road match against FC Dallas, on October 4th.
