Can the Houston Dynamo sneak in the MLS Playoffs?

With only a few games left on the calendar can Houston make it back into the playoffs?

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Last week we were all throwing dirt on Houston's season, canceling playoff trips and turning over to college football. This week the outlook is a little different. Okay, not much different but a teeny tiny bit.

The Houston Dynamo played three games last week on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. They came away with six points which helped them gain some ground in the chase to get above the red line. They are sitting in seventh place, three points back from the Portland Timbers who are the first team above the red line. The Timbers are sitting in the final playoff spot with 44 points, three of which they got on Saturday night after a win over the Columbus Crew. Also above the Dynamo are the San Jose Earthquakes who have 43 points, Houston just behind them with 41.

So what does Houston have to do to make it into the playoffs? Win all the games basically.

While hoping that the teams directly above them don't win all of their games.

Houston's October schedule isn't an easy one. They kick it off by playing rival F.C. Dallas who are third in the playoff standings. Their bye week has been filled with their make-up Charities Cup match against Santos Laguna. Then the following week they host the Seattle Sounders and end the season on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Not an easy October by any stretch of the imagination. While the team looked great against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday bare in mind that the Rapids sit at the bottom of the Western Conference Standings.

When all else fails just win all the games.
