After drafting a defender with their first pick in the draft the Houston Dash drafted a forward with their second pick. A native of England Rachel Daly is a scoring talent. She scored a record-breaking 23 goals in the 2013 season for St John's University.
In 2014 Daly became the first player in St John's history to earn an NSCAA Scholar All-America selection. Daly is ranked #7 on Top Drawer Soccer's Women's National Top 100 rankings and ranked #1 in the Big East. She has played for England's U-15, U-17 and U-19 teams.
The Houston Dash finished the 2015 NWSL season in fifth place after spending the later part of the season hoping to make the playoffs. They had the fifth, sixth and eighth picks in the 2016 NWSL Draft. Earlier in the week the Dash traded forwards Jessica McDonald and Tiffany McCarty creating room on the roster for more froward talent on the roster.
