Free Agent Targets?

With the silly season now in full swing, post MLS Cup, I figured it was time to ramp up some more contentions debating and rumor mongering. So I have set my sites on the upcoming free agency candidates. Looking at the pool of potential Out of Contract free agents this year here are a few interesting targets the Dynamo should consider. What are your thoughts?

Attacking Options
  • Dominic Oduro – the one time Dynamo has the one thing you can’t coach and that’s speed. While you aren’t going to see him competing for the Golden Boot anytime soon his speed and tenacity continue to give MLS defenses fits. He is still good for a handful of goals a year and his salary in the mid $200’s is very attainable for the Dynamo.
  • Mike Magee – Is he willing to leave LA? Doubtful but if you could bring him in anywhere near his current $250k price tag there is definite value there and you would bring in a player who is both creative and opportunistic. This would make even more sense if the rumored Dynamo trade is an outgoing Will Bruin and it would probably be an upgrade. Middle of the Park
  • · Jeff Larentowicz – This was a player I really wish the Dynamo had picked up last year but LA swooped him up and when they added Gerrard he became a bit of surplus for them. He isn't the guy that steered the ship in New England for all those years but he is a savvy veteran that would improve their Central distribution. His current salary is very manageable at under $200k and would be a solid addition in midfield as a starter or depth (think a way better version of Eric Alexander)
  • Back Line
  • · Sean Franklin – I love his speed and tenacity and he would give them an outside back that actually brings something to the attack. He is also usually good for a handful of assists a year and would cost you about the same as Williams and in my opinion would be a pretty big upgrade in the role. I would expect several teams to be in on him but worth a look.
  • · Marvell Wynne – Proof that some things do get better with age. Marvell is still one of the fastest backs in MLS and can play as both a CB and outside back. This is another player I wish we had made a deal for a couple years back when he was on the market. I think he would be an instant starter in Houston and coming off a guaranteed salary of $235k shouldn’t break the bank to get. I also feel like he is undervalued around the league so you shouldn't have a lot of competition for him.
  • Dom Type Move
  • · Chance Myers - As an ‘Ode to our old skipper I wanted to throw this last one in as it would totally be the type of move he would make. Chance is coming off a couple of bad injuries and would be a bit of a reclamation project but when he was on, this guy was really good. Given his injury history you should be a able to get him at a pretty team friendly price too and at 29 should still be able to give you a few years. But it may be hard to pry him away from SKC.
