Dash sign Janine Van Wyk.

Wednesday, the Houston Dash announced that they signed the captain of the South African Women’s National Team, Janine Van Wyk.

The center back has 142 appearances with the National team making her the most capped South African player ever. Van Wyk has scored eleven goals for the National team in that time. In 2012 she founded the JvW girl’s school league and has been a player-coach there since that time.

"I'm very excited that Janine will join the Dash in 2017. She was recently named as one of the four finalists for the African Footballer of the Year Award – that is the quality she brings to the team,” head coach Randy Waldrum said in the team release announcing the signing. “Janine also brings a wealth of international experience to the club. I felt we had to address our central defending positions this offseason and add more experience and leadership, Janine certainly fills that need."

The signing is of course pending receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.
