Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas finish preseason with 2-2 draw

The Western Conference rivals end the Desert Diamond Cup with 2 goals a piece.

It was a fairly quite match between rival MLS clubs the Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City. Each side scored two goals to end their time at the Desert Diamond Cup with a draw.

Kansas City got on the scoreboard first thanks to a set piece goal. Nuno Andre Coelho finished the set piece off with a header that went right past Calle Brown to give SKC a1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

In the 31st minute Jalil Anibaba put a long cross into the box that was then headed down by Giles Barnes. Melia failed to stop the shot from Barnes and Houston drew level with SKC.

SKC was awarded an indirect free kick in the 53rd minute after Brown picked up a back ball from Raul Rodriguez. Dom Dwyer found Daniel Salloi unmarked at the far post and he easily put the ball into the back of the net. Houston finally got the equalizer they were looking for in the 77th minute when the freshly subbed on Cubo Torres beat Meila at the post to make the game 2-2.

That score would hold until the final whistle as the Desert Diamond Cup match came to an end. Houston put together a mixed bag this preseason with moments to cause excitement and concern for the 2016 season.

The Dynamo kick off the 2016 at home against the New England Revolution on March 6 at 1:45 pm CT.
