Houston Dynamo notch preseason win over San Jose Earthquakes

The Houston Dynamo got a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2016 Desert Friendlies.

Unless you were hanging out in Arizona for the match chances are you missed the first eight minutes of the game due to streaming issues. Luckily, the first half was a quiet one on both sides of the ball. Each team had a few chances, but neither came away with a goal. Houston's best chance came on a penalty kick after DaMarcus Beasley was tripped up in the box. Giles Barnes took the kick but was denied by San Jose goal keeper Bryan Meredith. This was the first preseason match for Will Bruin who came out of the match after about thirty minutes and Cubo Torres came into the game. Dynamo rookie T.J. Casner played a strong game last time out against the Timbers which earned him the chance to start this match against the Quakes. He showed once again that he deserved it as he sent several great balls forward but unfortunately wasn't able to turn anything into a goal.

Houston started the second half off strong as Giles Barnes went down in the box to earn a penalty. Cubo Torres took the penalty kick stuttering, and sending a low ball past Meredith for a Dynamo goal. In the 57th minute, the team switched out almost every player on the field similar to their first friendly against the Portland Timbers. Except for the Dynamo goal the second half was almost as quiet as the first with each team having a few chances. The Dynamo rookies and new comers were all working hard to show that they want to make the starting lineup when the season kicks off in March.

Houston's next preseason match will be February 9 at 7 pm CT against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
