Houston Dynamo fall to Vancouver Whitecaps in preseason

Vancouver Whitecaps outscore Houston 2-0 in final Desert Friendly match.

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

The set up for this preseason game was a bit different from the others as the plan was to play four 30 minute periods with a five minute break in between each period. The first three periods went scoreless for both sides, but the Whitecaps made the fourth period count scoring two goals before the end of the game.

As with the 2015 season, Tyler Deric was the man who kept the Houston Dynamo in this game. Deric was kept busy during the first two thirty minute periods as he was forced to make amazing save after amazing save. While it was great to see that Deric is still in 2015 form it was a bit troublesome to see the goal keeper once again forced into making heroic saves and to once again be thanking the cross bar for existing. After playing the first three periods, Deric was replaced in the game by Calle Brown.

In the 97th minute, Alphonso Davies got going on the break and passed the ball to Marco Bustos who was able to beat Brown. With a low shot Bustos made it 1-0 to give the Whitecaps the first lead of the night.

In the 118th minute, the Whitecaps hit a cross through the box that looked like it deflected off of a Dynamo defender and into the box. The game ended with that goal and the Whitecaps claimed a 2-0 victory.

The Dynamo now return to Houston and will play Houston Baptist University on Saturday out at Houston Sports Park.
