Houston Dynamo vs New York Red Bulls Final Score 3-4: Dynamo fall on the road to Red Bulls

Dynamo fall after see-saw scoring battle against the New York Red Bulls.

The match up between the Houston Dynamo and the New York Red Bulls was a back and forth scoring battle that would eventually see the Red Bulls claim their first win of the season and the Dynamo their first loss of the season. Houston were without key starters Tyler Deric, Giles Barnes and Cristian Maidana, but they still managed to play a tough match and nearly came out with a win.

Back-up goal keeper Joe Willis came up with a big save early on as BWP was looking for a tap in goal. Kemar Lawrence crossed the ball in the box to Bradley Wright-Phillips at the far post. Instead of tapped the ball into the back of the net it tapped into the chest of a diving Willis, denying the striker the chance to put his team up a goal on the Dynamo.

However, the Red Bulls wouldn't be denied the scoreboard scoring in the 22nd minute. DaMarcus Beasley looked like he had gotten the ball on a turn over but he failed to clear the ball out of the danger zone. Beasley whiffed as he went to clear the ball leaving Sacha Kljestan the chance to run in and snag the ball. Kljeston immediately sent the ball to goal and right past a diving Willis.

But unlike Dynamo road teams of past this team didn't fold under the weight of being down a goal. Instead they would come right back and score in the 35th minute. It was Will Bruin with a beautiful chip that drew the team level with the Red Bulls. Then six minutes later it was Bruin again finishing off a cross from Jalil Anibaba and that put the Dynamo up 2-1.

Houston looked to pick up the second half right where they left off as they traded shots with the Red Bulls. After a yellow card was issued to David Horst in the 50th minute the Red Bulls had at good chance at goal from 25 out on the free kick. However, Kljestan's ball proved to be no match for Willis.

Houston's inability to clear the ball would come back to bite them again in the second half. With the ball in front of their net the Dynamo failed to clear the ball out during a scramble in the box. Mike Grella would eventually wind up with the ball and put it into the back of the net to level things at 2-2. The Dynamo responded almost immediately thanks to Alex. Boniek Garcia made a short pass to Alex who found the corner of the net and Houston's regained lead.

But the see-saw battle wasn't over at least not for the Red Bulls. Despite being surrounded by Dynamo players, Felipe let loose a long range shot that went in the upper corner. Felipe followed it up with another goal in the 83rd minute. He curled a free kick around the wall and into the back of the net to give the Red Bulls the 4-3 lead.

The free kick goal from Felipe would prove to be the game winner as Houston didn't have any more goals left to score in this one. While this team looked like a different road team than fans saw last season from the Dynamo fan unfortunately saw the same results as the team walk away with loss.

Next Saturday, the Dynamo are still on the road as they head to Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps.
