The Dynamo put together a strong first half match against the Seattle Sounders, but it gave way to a complaisant second half that saw three points turn into one in the dying moments of the match.
The Sounders didn't have many chances in the first half as the Dynamo controlled the ball especially in the midfield. Houston had multiple chances in front of the net during the first half, however, Frei was there to stop (almost) all of them.
The Sounders had few chances in the first half most coming from corner kicks or free kicks. The best chance at goal for the Sounders in the first half was thanks to a free kick after Ricardo Clark fouled Ivanschitz. Clint Dempsey took the kick in the 33rd minute and just missed the net wide.
Houston on the other hand had numerous chances in front of the net. After all of his effort and attempts to scored in the first 35 minutes of the game it wasn't until he wasn't trying that Giles Barnes scored for the Dynamo. Barnes turned just in time to see the ball and took a kick at it sending it towards the net. Frei had no shot at the high ball as Houston went up 1-0 over the Sounders.
The Sounders looked more dangerous in the second half, but the game soon fell into a lull as Houston seemed to be barely awake. After subs on each side, Boniek Garcia almost scored right after getting on the field. Andrew Wenger did a great job to set Boniek up in the box but once against Frei was there to stop the ball.
Thing got dangerous for Houston once Herculez Gomez came on as a late sub. He proved to be an immediate spark for Seattle, but Willis was able to hold off the surging Sounders. Beasley gave up a free kick after being called for taking down Gomez but the Dynamo defense easily headed out the free kick attempt. With three minutes of stoppage time the Sounders kept pushing for a late equalizer and eventually they got it.
In the last seconds of the game Chad Marshall, with Dynamo defenders all around him, ended up with the ball at his feet. Not hesitating Marshall hit the ball right past Raul Rodriquez to score the equalizer.
Final score Dynamo 1, Sounders 1.
In a matter of seconds three points turned into one as Houston was once again unable to close out the game. While the Dynamo offense is looking good this season it is the defense that continues to be a problem particularly late in game.
