2016 Houston Dash Season Preview: Fans, fans, fans

Why should you be a fan of the Dash? Our staffers break it down.

Trask Smith

The NWSL season is almost here so to prepare we gathered all of our Houston Dash writers to ask them about the offseason, the upcoming 2016 season and more. Each day this week we will release a new question or two that we had our staffers answer.

Why should new fans follow the Dash?

Meg: (Going to plead the fifth on this, because I'm still trying to figure it out myself)

Shana: New fans should follow the Dash for one simple reason: THEY'RE AMAZING! No, really though. They're an all-around fun team to watch play any match and there's really nothing that the team does on or off the pitch that doesn't include simply having fun. Give them a shot, watch a few matches, and give them a follow on social media accounts and I promise you that it'll be hard to not absolutely love the team!

Daniel: Unfortunately, the Orlando Pride have taken the crown of newest team in the NWSL, but the Dash can still be considered as newish. If prompted every Dash player will list the perks of being an MLS associated franchise and it's also a benefit that trickles down and applies to the fans. Supporting any team in the NWSL is great, it's an important league in women's professional sports and being a Dash supporter helps add another voice to the conversation. Aside from their on-field style, there are a lot of fun personalities and characters on the roster from Ellie Brush to Melissa Henderson, head coach Waldrum and even the serious yet semi-serious, Carli Lloyd in between. And if all else isn't enticing enough, the mere presence of Lloyd Dash captain, full-time superhero and recent FIFA World Player of the Year is reason enough to become a Dash supporter.

Trista:
I believe the Dash and NWSL as a whole is exciting. I believe the U.S. Women's National Team World Cup win has generated an interest in women's soccer again in this country. Houston, along with the league, provides us with an opportunity to see these great players pitted against each other, in some cases, on a weekly basis. What's not to love about that?

Alicia: Houston is a lot of fun to watch and support. There is something every special about this group of players on and off the field. While the team has big names like Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian, it also has players like Melissa Henderson and Haley Carter who are just as important to the team. Plus, there is the added bonus that they are a MLS associated club and players from both clubs attend the others games.
