It may have been one of the worst kept secrets in NWSL, but on Saturday it was announced that Houston and BBVA Compass Stadium would host the 2016 NWSL Final. NWSL Commissioner Jeff Plush was in town to make the announcement with Houston Dash president Chris Canetti.
The game is set for October 9 and will be aired on FOX SPORT 1. The top four teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will make it in to the playoffs. The two teams that win the semifinal matches will advance to the Houston hosted final.
Last year's game was hosted by the Portland Thorns and won by FC Kansas City. FCKC have dominated the championship winning in back to back seasons (2014 and 2015).
The Houston Dash kick off the season on Saturday night against the Chicago Red Stars. The Dash just missed the playoffs last year finishing the regular season in fifth place.
