The Houston Dash are no longer the newest kids on the NWSL block. That honor has been taken over by the Orlando Pride, also a MLS affiliated team.
The two teams have had very different starts to the season as the Dash started the season off with a big 3-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars. The Pride on the other hand fell 2-1 to the Portland Thorns.
#DashOn
THIS was the team that Houston fans have been waiting for. The Dash underwent a lot of roster changes in the offseason and one game into the 2016 season they looked like they just might pay off. Rookie Rachel Daly started the season off in a big way with a goal and an assist in her first game out. Her brilliant overall performance won her NWSL Player of the Week honors and a Goal of the Week Nomination. The Dash came out of week one ranked #2 in the league Power Rankings.
The Dash gave up an early goal to the Red Stars, but quickly followed it up with a goal of their own followed by two more. The team looks like they have finally found the right group of players to speed up their offense and finally score goals. The defense is still a bit of a worry this season. Particularly if you watch the goal they gave up to Christen Press.
The Dash injury report looks very much the same as it did on opening weekend. Cari Roccaro and Melissa Henderson are both ruled out while Morgan Brian is listed as questionable.
Record Pride
The Orlando Pride are hoping to set attendance records with their home opener. Saturday, the Pride are expecting to play in front of a crowd of more than 25,000 fans.
Even though they lost 2-1 to the Portland Thorns opening weekend. The Pride showed that they are going to be a tough team to face this season. With Kristen Edmonds, Jasmyne Spence and Alex Morgan playing at forward the Pride have a lot of speed that could be a tough test for the Dash defense. In their game against the Thorns, Steph Catley scored the first goal in team history on a free kick from just outside the box.
The game kicks off at 6:30 pm CT on Saturday, April 23 and will be streamed on YouTube.
