Houston Dynamo at San Jose Earthquakes Preview: Dynamo looking to start a win streak against Earthquakes

From playing against a beloved former player to playing against a beloved former coach the Dynamo are hoping to repeat the success of last weekend. They are on the road for a mid-week matchup against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Hoping for back-to-back wins

The Dynamo went from a record setting start to a win-less streak that has their season in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs. In nine games they have amassed just eight points and sit at the bottom of the Western Conference. The struggle for the Dynamo has come at keeping the other team from scoring. They started the season off with a lot of goals but unfortunately they were rarely able to stop the other team from scoring. Their 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City last weekend was only their second shut out of the season. They have managed two big wins over their rivals, last week's win over Sporting and a week two 5-0 win over F.C. Dallas.

Last week saw Cubo Torres finally getting the start for the Dynamo while Giles Barnes was able to drop back into the midfield to play his more natural position. This switch up lead to a goal by Barnes (that is up for goal of the week) thanks to a beautiful pass from Torres.

Houston lost the possession battle in a big way against SKC but they scored two and kept SKC from scoring which in the end was all that mattered. But can they do it against San Jose?

San Jose is currently rocking a -1 goal differential to Houston's 0, but looks can be deceiving. They have a 4-5-2 record that is good enough for fifth place in the Western Conference. Chris Wondolowski already has seven goals on the season which puts him in the top of MLS scorers. The Dynamo will have to shut down Wondolowski if they want any hopes of winning on the road.
