When Carli Lloyd was initially injured in April, the question many had was, "Where will the goals come from?" A month later, the question still remains unanswered.
After losing to both Orlando and Washington by a single goal, Houston gets the chance to get revenge on the Spirit Friday night, this time in front of a home crowd. While the team continues to collectively rack up offside calls instead of goals, it is questionable if they can crack the defense of the league's current #1 team.
Washington saw its undefeated streak end at the hands of Portland last weekend, but before the May 21st game had only conceded one goal. With Joanna Lohman and Diana Matheson (who are locked in a 6-way tie for the most goals scored) amongst the lineup, finding goals may not be a problem for the visitors. However, with the backline of Ali Krieger (assuming she hasn't reported to national team camp yet) and Shelina Zardorsky, as well as Canada's presumed number one goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe- who is tied for the most clean sheets this season- Houston's forwards will need to come into the game with the mindset to score.
Side note: For those of you participating in NWSL Fantasy League, keep in mind the U.S. National Team players begin camp Friday, May 27th, so plan accordingly.
