Houston Dynamo vs San Antonio FC: Dynamo start US Open Cup against in-state team

Dynamo enter Open Cup action.

MLS: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Dynamo host San Antonio FC on Wednesday night in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Both team have struggled in their respective leagues this season. San Antonio, a USL team, is currently 13th in the standings. Houston currently sit last in the Western Conference of MLS.

Dynamo affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC was ruled ineligible to play in the Open Cup due to their close affiliation with the Dynamo. This leaves all of their players available to the Dynamo for this game. Jose Escalante and TJ Casner have both been training with the Dynamo this week and are expected to be available to play in Wednesday’s game.

RGVFC has gotten points every time they have played San Antonio this season with two wins and one draw. RGVFC held them to shuts out in two of the three games.

San Antonio has one face that will be familiar to Dynamo fans, Jason Johnson. The forward played for the team from 2013 to 2015. This is his first season with San Antonio and currently leads the team in goals with three.

Action will kick off at 7:15 pm CT.
