The Houston Dash dropped their fourth straight match in a 1-0 loss to FC Kansas City at BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday night.
Despite the final score, Houston’s attack felt resurgent after a trio of lackluster performances. Kansas City’s formidable backline led by Becky Sauerbrunn made it difficult for the Dash to finish in the final third and held the club off the board, Houston's fourth straight scoreless match. Sauerbrunn made FC Kansas City’s most important contribution on the offensive end, heading home the game winning goal in the 80th minute.
Houston had a key opportunity to score in the 66th minute. Rachel Daly blasted a shot off the crossbar and Ohai collected the rebound. Ohai's follow up attempt fell just wide of the goal. Alyssa Chapman's earlier attempt also beat Nicole Barnhart, but couldn't beat the crossbar.
Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams had another fine performance despite the loss. Williams denied Mandy Laddish attempt from close with ten minutes left in the match. Williams also made a key save on Heather O'Reilly's strike in the 73rd minute, tipping the ball off the goal post.
Amber Brooks had an attempt at goal in the final moments of the match, but her attempt from distance sailed over the crossbar.
With the loss, Houston falls to ninth in the standings just three points above the last place Boston Breakers.
The Dash will make a quick turnaround next week against the Orlando Pride at Camping World Stadium on June 23rd.
