Barely a week after leaving the Houston Dynamo to be closer to his family, Owen Coyle has been announced as the new manager for the Blackburn Rovers. Coyle signed a two year deal with the Championship level club. Coyle has previously managed Burnley and the Bolton Wanders as well as a short stint with Wigan. During his time with Burnley, Owen Coyle helped the team gain promotion into the Premier League. However, he did not find the same success with Bolton or Wigan.

Under Owen Coyle the Dynamo went 14-21-11 after he took over the team in December of 2014. The Dynamo missed the playoffs last season and are currently in last place in the Western Conference. Assistant coach Sandy Stewart also left the Dynamo with Coyle. Since Coyle's departure, assistant coach Wade Barrett has taken over the reins of the Dynamo until the club forms a long term plan.
