After several games of coming close and falling short the Houston Dynamo finally got the win they had been seeking under interim head coach Wade Barrett.
The first big chance for the Dynamo came in the 21st minute when Giles Barnes headed a ball towards goal after a pass into the box from Jalil Anibaba. Unfortunately for Barnes, Andre Blake was there to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
Blake came up big again in the 29th minute when he stopped a header from Will Bruin. Bruin redirected a diagonal cross from Alex Lima towards goal but Blake once again prevented the Dynamo from scoring.
As soon as CJ Sapong came on in the 62nd minute he immediately began making an impact in front of goal. Including almost scoring on a pass from Chris Pontius but Raul Rodriguez was there to make the block before it found the net.
In the 87th minute Josh Yaro was issued his second yellow card of the night after pulling down Mauro Manotas. It put the Union down to ten men for the rest of the match.
Finally in the dying minutes of the game Boniek Garcia was fouled outside the box by former Dynamo Warren Creavalle. It was former Union player Cristian Maidana who took the free kick from 23 yards out. Maidana got the free kick up and over the wall, over Blake and into the back of the net. The last second goal give the Dynamo their first win in MLS play under Wade Barrett.
The Union dominated 55% of possession in the first half yet the Dynamo out shot them 5-3. None of the shots for the Union were on target. By the end of the game the Dynamo had the edge in possession hanging on to the ball 52% of the game. They took 18 shots in the game but it was the final free kick that won it all for them. This was the first game all season that the Union did not score a single goal in.
Next Friday, the Dynamo are in Orlando to face Orlando City.
