Kealia Ohai entered Saturday night’s match with only one goal this season, a baffling statistic from Houston's captain. Ohai finally put together an impressive game with a brace, leading the Dash to a 3-3 draw against the Flash.
Western New York Flash forward Lynn Williams’ dramatic equalizer in the 93rd minute may be remembered as the defining moment of the 2016 Houston Dash season. Williams found herself on the end of Jess McDonald's header and placed her finish past Bianca Henninger.
Houston looked poised for a victory after Ohai put the Dash ahead 3-1 with her second goal in the match, but the Flash didn't show any signs of quit. Former Dash forward McDonald got her retribution in her first match back at BBVA Compass Stadium, keeping the Flash alive in the game with a goal in the 70th minute.
Ohai's first goal in the match was an impressive way to break a streak, as the forward went for a box-to-box sprint down the pitch, cut around a final defender and placed her left-footed finish past Rowland.
Dash forward Rachel Daly continued her dominant rookie campaign with her fourth goal of the season in the 31st minute. Daly blasted a stellar strike from 30 yards out and Flash keeper Katelyn Rowland had no chance to make a save. Daly's goal marked her third straight match with a goal.
Houston began tonight in similar fashion to last Saturday's match against the Red Stars. The Dash again allowed an early goal and despite the dramatics that ensued against the Flash finished with the same result, a draw.
As Houston head into the Olympic break on a three-game unbeaten streak, the club may wonder whether a late-season push could garner a playoff spot? Or if their recent scoring outburst may be too little, too late.
The Dash return to action August 17, against the Washington Spirit at BBVA Compass Stadium.
