Taylor Lytle's 54th minute goal dictated an otherwise unsurprising result, as Sky Blue FC defeated the Houston Dash 1-0 at Yurcak Field.
With the defeat Houston has dropped six straight 1-0 losses and the club has gone two months without scoring a goal. An unprecedented low for a Dash side, who prior to the season sought to compete for a playoff spot and establish themselves as one of the top clubs in the league.
Houston's seventh loss of the season makes it clear their struggles can't be deemed as a fluke or random anymore but are inductive of the team's ability. There's still an opportunity for the Dash to finish out the season playing at a higher level, but it's unlikely Houston will achieve the same level of play the club was predicted to play at.
Amber Brooks provided the Dash with their best opportunity to score against Sky Blue FC. Brooks blasted a strike from long range past Sky Blue goalkeeper Caroline Casey, but nailed the post.
Dash keeper Bianca Henninger played well in her first start of the season, replacing Lydia Williams. Henninger made a key diving stop in the 73rd minute to deny Lytle her second goal of the match.
Houston's offense sputtered against Casey.
The Dash produced a flurry of attempts to close out the match, however an unfortunately arm injury to Rebecca Moros derailed their surge of momentum. Chioma Ubogagu made an effort to dribble through Sky Blue FC's backline, but her shot from distance was saved by Casey.
Ubogagu closed out the match by launching a free kick over the crossbar. And for a sixth straight match Houston fell behind 1-0 and found themselves unable to equalize, let alone finish the match victorious.
Houston will look to end their losing streak next Saturday, against Portland Thorns FC at BBVA Compass Stadium on Pride Night.
