The Houston Dynamo host the Seattle Sounders in a Wednesday night match up. The two teams occupy the bottom half of the Western Conference standings with the Dynamo sitting dead last with 24 points and the Sounders in ninth place with 30 points on the season. Both teams got victories this past weekend, the Dynamo secured their first road win this season with their victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. Both are also currently being helmed by interim head coaches. The Dynamo have been run by Wade Barrett since Owen Coyle’s departure from Houston and Brian Schmetzer took over after Seattle parted ways with Sigi Schmid.
The Dynamo have improved since Barrett took over the reins of the Dynamo. The defense has looked much sharper under Barrett’s tenure, but they haven’t been without flaws. David Horst returned last match after missing the previous game due to suspension. Horst’s return saw him help shore up the Dynamo defense and score one of the Dynamo’s two goals against San Jose. Joe Willis will likely start in goal against Seattle after Tyler Deric sustained an elbow sprain while playing for Dynamo affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC last week. DaMarcus Beasley is still listed as questionable following his knee surgery.
The Dynamo have struggled to find the back of the net this season. Mauro Manotas has gotten the start at forward the last couple of games. Manotas is working hard to get his first MLS goal. He has 19 shots so far this season with six of them on goal. The team currently has four players tied for the team golden boot with four goals each.
The Sounders have struggled heavily this season often times fighting with the Dynamo for last place in the Western Conference. However, they have had a resurgence since bringing in Nicolas Loderio at the end of July. The Sounders drew against LA Galaxy in Loderio’s first game and since then they have won all three games that he has played in. He scored his first MLS goal in their win over Real Salt Lake. Cristian Roldan, a second year midfielder, had a huge impact in their last game against the Portland Timbers. Roldan scored against the Timbers and helped to set up Dempsey for another goal. Jordan Morris and Clint Dempsey are currently tied for most goals on the team with eight goals each.
The Dynamo follow Wednesday night’s game with a big rivalry match on Saturday night against FC Dallas. A quick turnaround will come into effect when it comes time for Barrett to make his subs as he will need to keep an eye on the game on Saturday as well as the one on Wednesday night.
The two teams play on Wednesday night at 8 pm CT.
