The Houston Dynamo hope to claim their 2nd victory on the road this season as they travel to Sporting Kansas City. Last week the Dynamo were able to win the Texas Derby, although in a somewhat unusual fashion as FC Dallas were able to win the match 3-1, but still lost because of aggregate goals. Interim Manager Wade Barrett finally deployed a 4-4-2 in a desperate attempt to equalize, but it was too late as FC Dallas were content to capitalize on counter attacks and simply possess the ball.
The Dynamo depth will surely be tested in this one as defenders David Horst, Agus, Abdoulie Mansally are unlikely to feature against Sporting Kansas City. There have not been any updates about the status of goalkeeper Tyler Deric and he did not play in the friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara so I would expect Joe Willis to be the man in goal for Houston. It’s also unclear if Oscar Boniek Garcia will be back after playing with the Honduran National Team, but I wouldn’t expect him to start if he were available.
There is some good news for the Dynamo though as DaMarcus Beasley was able to play against Chivas for the final 20 minutes of the game. It was the action he’s seen since having minor surgery on his knee. Additionally Will Bruin will travel with the club and could return to action. Bruin’s last game was against Seattle and he and Andrew Wenger combined well in the 1-1 draw.
This game will likely see at least 1 new face for the Dynamo and it’s most likely to be central defender Keyner Brown whom the Dynamo acquired the rights for in exchange for Giles Barnes. Brown could partner in central defense alongside Raul Rodriguez. Another option is new signee and former Rio Grande Valley FC captain Kevin Garcia. The defender was recently signed to bolster some depth given the number of injuries in the back. Yair Arboleda, Jose Escalante, and Christian Lucatero could also see minutes, but I doubt they would be given the call to start.
My Projected Starting Lineup
I think we see a solo striker up top in this game simply because we’re short on forwards now that we have loaned Erick Torres out to Cruz Azul. The move gives the Dynamo just a handful of true forward options (Manotas and Bruin as Wenger has mostly been utilized out wide) and Bruin is just now returning from injury. In the back I think Brown partners with Rodriguez as the entire backline saw practice time together against Chivas.
There are plenty of options to choose from so who do you want to see start against Sporting Kansas City? Let us know below and share your starting squad in the comments below!
