The Houston Dynamo will play Sporting Kansas City in the Knockout Round of the 2017 MLS Playoffs. Thanks to their fourth place finish in the Western Conference the Dynamo will host Sporting at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2013.

The 2017 MLS Regular Season concluded on Sunday and with it the playoff picture was set. Houston’s win over the Chicago Fire helped propel them to fourth place in the Western Conference and a knockout game against Sporting. The San Jose Earthquakes will face the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Wednesday night knockout game while the Portland Timber and Seattle Sounders finished with first round byes. For the Eastern Conference, Supporters’ Shield winner Toronto FC and New York City FC finished one-two for first round byes. On Wednesday night the Fire will play the New York Red Bulls and Thursday Atlanta United will place the Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference knockout games.

The Dynamo and Sporting faced each other twice during the 2017 regular season. Houston beat SKC on their home turf just a week and a half ago. The follow up game played just days later at Children’s Mercy Park ended in a scoreless draw. Earlier in the year Kansas City knocked the Dynamo out of the US Open Cup with a 2-0 win at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Kickoff is currently set for 8:30 pm CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
