When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston was left paralyzed for days due to extreme flooding. The news was filled with images of flooding and Houstonians being evacuated from their homes by kayaks, boats and even jet skis. A month out from the storm and the news is no longer filled with stories of rescue but the people who lost everything are still trying to put their lives back together.
Not only were homes and business were lost due to the flooding but the chance from some kids to play soccer was lost as well. Texas United FC was one of the youth programs that lost everything in the flooding. TUFC helps to provide a low-cost, safe and structured soccer experience for all area youth. Texas United offers teams at all levels of competitive soccer such as Premier League, State Classic League, Division I (DDL-Orange), Super 2 (DDL-White), Dynamo-Dash Jr, and HYSA Divisions 2, 3, and 4.
To help TUFC get back on their feet we at Dynamo Theory are running a fundraising campaign to help them replace the equipment that they lost. We have set our fundraising goal at $30,000.
Why so much? The club lost all of their equipment soccer ball, goals and training equipment. In addition to the lost equipment the field is going to require a lot of work to get it back to playing condition.
Here just some of the costs to replace the lost equipment:
Nets $3,900
Rebounders $5,400
Corner Flags and Poles $700
Portable Goals $800
Soccer Balls $1,100
Training Cones $3,120
Field Rental (6 wks) $3,000
Their field is still underwater and organizers have worked to find alternate locations for the kids to play their games. Now their home games will be played forty minutes away on a rented field. Helping TUFC get back to helping the kids in the community it helps to give the players (and their parents) time away from dealing with the fallout of the flooding. To just go and have fun with a soccer ball for a few hours.
