Houston Dynamo Sign Four to First Team

Several RGVFC players along with our draft pick from the SuperDraft this year made the final roster cut ahead of the start of the regular season

The Houston Dynamo signed four players to the first team following the roster deadline earlier today. Midfielders Joseph Holland, the Dynamo’s first round draft pick in this year’s SuperDraft, homegrown product Memo Rodriguez along with defenders Taylor Hunter and George Malki all signed contracts to play for the Dynamo, although their roles on the team are still to be determined.

This move by the organization is notable as three of the players played for the Dynamo affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC Toros which solidifies the Dynamo’s faith in how the Toros are developing players – it is also of note as Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera had extended time with these players as their coach last season. Memo Rodriguez and Taylor Hunter are also in their second stints with the first team, although I would certainly expect all of these players to be loaned out to RGVFC in order to continue their development.

Overall this is a smart move by the Dynamo. Cabrera has seen plenty from these players both last season and what they showcased in preseason and the organization believes that these players have earned their contracts. Many have argued that T.J. Casner should have earned a contract over players such as Memo, but the forward and wing positions are pretty much full so it wouldn’t make sense to sign a player to a position full up.

What do you think of our new signings and who has the potential to see first team minutes?
