Houston Dash vs Sky Blue FC Preview: Dash return home to face Sky Blue

The Dash ready for the first of back-to-back games against Sky Blue.

Houston Dash vs Chicago Red Stars, Game 1 2017
Trask Smith

The Houston Dash are back at BBVA after a three game road stretch. Saturday they host Sky Blue FC on Pups to the Pitch day. So far the season has been a mixed bag for the Dash. They suffered two hard losses while on their three game road trip. The first was a 5-1 loss to the Seattle Reign and the second was a loss last weekend to the Chicago Red Stars. The lone bright spot was a 1-0 win against the Washington Spirit. After the road trip the Dash are sitting in fourth place in the NWSL with a 2-2-0 record.

Against Chicago the Dash’s Sarah Hagen scored an own goal in the 44th minute to give the Red Stars a 1-0 lead before the half. Hagen was trying to clear an attempt from Danielle Colaprico but her header instead found the back of her own net. Midfielder Julie Ertz double Chicago’s lead in the 62nd minute on a chip from Christen Press. The lone bit of positive news for the Dash from the Chicago game was the return of Morgan Brian. The midfielder had yet to play in 2017 for the Dash after injuring her knee during international play in the offseason.

Sky Blue are two points behind the Dash in eighth place in the NWSL with a 1-2-1 record. Their last game was a high scoring loss to the Washington Spirit. Losing 4-3 Sky Blue had success finding goal but struggle to shut down the Spirit’s attack. After giving up a goal early Sky Blue recovered quickly thanks to a goal from Kelley O’Hara. However, Sky Blue defender Erin Simon scored an own goal to helping the Spirit to extend their lead. Sarah Killion scored a brace in the game, one on a PK, but it wasn’t enough to over come the lapses on defense. Sky Blue has the league’s leading scorer on their roster in Killion who has found the back of the net three times this season. Of course right behind her on the scoring list is the Dash’s own Kealia Ohai who has two goals this season.

Saturday, you can bring your dog to the game with you if you purchase the Pups to the Pitch package. The game kicks off at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday at 3:00 pm CT.
