A great start from some lower division soccer here in the city of Houston. This week we had the Houston Dutch Lions F.C. and the Houston Regals SCA. both from the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League).
Houston Dutch Lions F.C.
Kicking off the week we had the Houston Dutch Lions F.C. taking on the NTX Rayados from the NTPSA (North Texas Premier Soccer Association) in the first round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The first half saw both teams feeling each other out with the Dutch Lions looking like the more threatening side before the halftime whistle. It didn’t take more than 9’ into the second half for the Lions to put the first goal on the board from Lawal Olayimika in the 54’. From that point on the Lions kept the pressure up with Jose Pablo Covarrubias scoring a minute later in the 54’. Things did get a little dicey in the 56’ with an own goal from Remy Broekmans. Houston did recover from the OG in the 89’ with a goal from Jerry Scholman. The at the whistle the Dutch Lion take the win 3-1
With this win the Houston Dutch Lions F.C. will take against the USL’s Western Conference 1st place team San Antonio F.C. in the second round of the US Open Cup Wednesday, May 17th at the Dutch Lions F.C. Soccer Facility in Conroe.
