Another week of local soccer is in the books for the Houston area. We saw a young new club bouncing back and winning their home opener, then we saw three heart breakers.

Houston F.C.

Our focus this week is on Houston FC of the USL PDL. The club kicked off their inaugural season on the road in Oklahoma City to take on the OKC Energy U23 this past Saturday. The match started well with Houston netting two goals early from Frederico Mattioli in the 25’ and Thomas Menke in the 31’. OKC moved to make the match a little harder going into the half scoring in added time bringing the the match within one goal in the 45’. Coming out of halftime things started to move into the hands of OKC scoring two more unanswered goals, the last coming in the 93’ to seal the game. Houston dropping the game 3-2.

With a quick turn around Houston F.C. had to bounce back for their home opener yesterday versus FC Cleburne. With three days to prepare, the club looked to give the crowd at Holloway Field located on Rice University’s campus something to go home happy. Houston F.C. did just that. The club came out looking for the win. The scoring was started early when Jordan Simon scored in the 5’ to put the home side up 1-0. 16’ minutes later Houston would put another one in thanks to Joshua Bronstorph making in 2-0. Things started to get a little dicey before the half yet again when Ross Fitzpatrick in the 33’ to pull F.C. Cleburne within one goal. Coming out of the half it was more of the same for Houston giving up the equalizer in the 52’ to make the score 2-2. Things started to chance in favor for Houston when Bronstorph scored his second of the night in the 84’ with a beauty in the upper 90. At this point FC Cleburne had nothing left. It showed when in the 89’ Luis Sanchez scored to close out the match and get 3 points at home. With this win the club is 3rd on the table in the Mid South Division.

This has the club sitting 3rd in the Lonestar Conference with 4 points. Their next match will be a local derby as they take on the Dutch Lions from Conroe.
