It was another soccer packed week here in H-Town. This week both WPSL (Women’s Premier Soccer League) clubs have jumped into their seasons. The Dutch Lions (NPSL) grabbed a needed point on the road. Then we had the Texas Titans (WPSL) showing Houston how its done.

Houston Dutch Lions F.C. (NPSL)

After losing their season opener, the Dutch Lions played to a 2-2 draw versus Tyler F.C. on Saturday in Bullard, TX. The match was a close one with the Lions almost coming home with 3 points. Tyler opened up the affair when Tony Bravo netting the first goal in the 34’. The Lions fought back out of the half when Carlos Acevedo put one on in at the 60’ mark bringing the match even with plenty of time left. Then in the 77’ Jorge Contreras scored to put the Lions up in the match. Unfortunately, Tyler F.C. had other plans. Enoch Shipman scored in the closing seconds of the match to make the game even at the whistle. This draw has the Dutch Lions sitting 5th in the table of the Lonestar conference with a record of 0-1-1 and 1 point. The club returns home this Saturday against its Houston rivals, the Houston Regals SCA. (#HoustonDerby) The Regals currently sit 3rd in the table.

Houston F.C. fell to Texas United 1-0 this past Friday at Holloway Field. The only goal of the match was scored by United’s Miguel Velasquez in the 34’. Houston F.C. falls to 4th in the Mid-South Division with a record of 1-2-0 and 3 points. The club will take on the first place OKC Energy U23 who are currently undefeated.

Brazos Valley Calvary F.C. (USL PDL)

The Houston Dynamo affiliate, Brazos Valley Calvary F.C. kicked off their inaugural USL PDL season with back to back road matches against the Mississippi Brilla FC F.C. The season opener which was played on Thursday saw the Calvary falling 1-0 to the Brilla with the only goal being scored by Thomas Vancaeyezeele in the 71’.

The second match on Saturday saw more life out of the club as they scored 2 goals. The first coming in the 27’ by Rimario Gordon. This pulled the match level at 1-1 going into halftime. Out of the break the momentum swung the Calvary’s way when Emmanuel Usen scored in the 57’ to put them up 2-1 over the Brilla. Then the wheels fell off when in the 77’ Enzo Giuliani scored to pull the contest even once again. Shortly after the Brilla sealed the match when Troye Kiernan scored in the 81’. The final 3-2 Mississippi Brilla F.C. Aftera tough two road matches the Calvary will return home June 5th against Texas United. Brazos Valley currently sit last in the Mid-South Divison with a record of 0-2-0 and 0 points.

After a horrible lose against San Antonio to start the season the South select looked to turn things around this past Saturday. The club played to a 0-0 draw versus F.C. Austin Elite.

Things didn’t get any better for the South Select on Sunday falling to the Lonestar S.C. 2-1. This puts the South Select 6th on the table in the Southwest-South Division on the Central Conference with a record of 0-2-1 and 1 point. Hopefully, the club can turn things around with two matches this week.

Texas Titans (WPSL)

The Titans kicked of their 2017 WPSL season strong with back to back wins. The season opener on Saturday saw the Titans take down the San Antonio Athenians S.C. 3-0. With a short one day turn around the club came out strong once again against F.C. Austin Elite beating them 3-0. This has the Titans sitting in 2nd of the Southwest-South Division on the Central Conference with a record of 2-0-0 and 6 points. The club has a upcoming double match week starting on Wednesday versus the TTi: Bluebonnets.
