It was yet another packed week of soccer here in Houston. This week we saw Houston F.C. grabbing their first road points of the season. Also, in this week was another showdown between two of Houston women’s clubs.

It was a double match week for the Cavalry which saw them splitting the two. The first match of the week had the club taking on Texas United at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas on Thursday. Brazos Valley got on the board first when Rimario Gordon scored his 4th of the season in the 27’. The Cavalry added another before the half when Emmanuel Usen netted his 3rd of the year in the 45’. It was smooth sailing the rest of the match until in the 89’ when Texas United’s Flavio Guzman put one in. The one goal from United wasn’t enough with Brazos Valley taking home three road points.

After netting 3 points on the road, the Cavalry came back home Saturday and took on the first place OKC Energy U23. After a goal from OKC in the 20’, Brazos Valley fought back to tie it up quickly in the 23’ when Elochukwu Ozumba scored his first of the year. After that the wheels fell off for the Cavalry when the Energy scored 5 unanswered goal to a final score of 6-1. After that loss Brazos Valley sit 3rd in the Mid South Division with a record of 3-4-0 and 9 points with 2 matches in hand.

It was a tough stretch for Houston F.C. which had four matches in twelve days and I resulted in only one win. Last Thursday Houston took on the undefeated OKC Energy U23. After giving up 4 goals to OKC the club did manage to score one in the 83’ when Daltyn Knutson got his first of the year. The club ended up falling to OKC 4-1.

Two days later Houston F.C. traveled up the Grand Prairie, Texas to take on Texas United where the club fell 3-0.

After getting blanked Houston bounced back in a big way to get it’s first 3 points on the road this past Monday against F.C. Celburne. It was a back and forth battle for Houston. Houston jumped ahead in the 26’ when Christian Clarke scored his first of the year. The lead wouldn’t last very long when ten minutes later F.C. Celburne scored back to back goals to go up 2-1 before the half. Out of the half it was all Houston. The boys bounced back to score twice with one coming from Alex Reyes getting his first of the season. Houston wins 3-2.
After this string of matches Houston F.C. currently sits 5th in the Mid South Division with a record of 2-6-0 and 6 points and 1 match in hand.

It was raining goals for the Dutch Lions in their double match week. The first match pinned the Lions against the first place Midland-Odessa F.C. last Thursday night. The club opened up the scoring early when Jerry Scholman scored in the 8’. The Lions managed to get another one before the half after Carlos Acevedo scored in the the 31’. Coming out of the break things were a little quite for both side. That changes when in the 85’ Jesus Cortes and the Lions struck again. The Dutch Lions take the three points winning 3-1.

After a quick two day turn around the Dutch Lions stepped on the pitch again against Tyler F.C. This was a high scoring affair for both club. Ultimately, the Lions walked away with the win. The 8th minute seems to be the time to score for the Lions because for the second straight time the Lions scored at that mark. The goal coming from Jesus Cortes. Two minutes later the Lions strike again when Yinka Lawal scores making it 2-0 Lions. Tyler F.C. would get one back in the 21’ after the goal from Alan Arroyo. The Lions would let that stop them when in the 39’ Jerry Scholman scored put see the Lions go up 3-1. That wasn’t enough for them. Before the half the Dutch Lions would score again to make it 4-1 at the halftime whistle. After halftime Tyler F.C. looked to come out strong, scoring in the 50’ from Nijee Cooper. Momentum went back to the Lions side when Yinka Lawal scored his second of the night in the 60’. Two more goals where scored in the match for a final of 6-3 for a Lions victory. After this win the Dutch Lions move to second place of the Lonestar Conference with a record of 4-1-1 and 13 points and 2 games in hand.

The Regals took on Midland-Odessa F.C. this past Saturday night at Kipp High School. It was a tough one for the guys losing the match late in the second half. The Regals held Midland-Odessa close until the 65’ when Maliq Cooper scored for the away side. It didn't get any easier when they scored again in the 74’ to drop the Regals 2-0. After the match the Regals sit in 4th of the with a record of 2-3-1 and 7 points and 2 matches in hand.

The Houston Aces took a road trip out to the west coast for two matches on back to back days last week. One win, one loss, not bad for a road trip. The first match had the Aces taking on the Santa Clarita Blue Heat Saturday night. The ladies were looking to take on a draw until in the 89’ Deyna Castellanos scored to put the Blue Heat up one. Ultimately, the Aces lose 1-0.

The following night the Aces took on the So Cal Crush. This match was all Aces. Houston opened up the scoring in the 20’ when Gisela Arrieta Betancourt scored. This was the first of three in the first half with the others coming from Tatiana Ariza and Stephanie Garcia. After halftime the Aces scored again when Diandra Aliaga to put the match out of reach for So Cal. The Aces grab their first road points and their first win of the year winning 4-0. The Houston Aces currently sit 4th in the UWS West Conference with a record of 1-3-0 and 3 points.
With the win over So Cal, Houston’s Natalia Ariza received Team of the Week honors with her sister Tatiana Ariza getting an honorable mention.

It was a tough week for the Texas Titans dropping both matches this past weekend. The first loss came from the hands of the first place Lonestar SC 5-0. A day later Houston South Select won their first of the year against the Titans losing 2-0. After these two tough fixtures the Titans sit 5th in the Southwest-South Division with a record of 2-7-0 and 6 points.

Houston South Select
The South Select played two fixtures this week. Thursday had the Select taking on the Shreveport Lady Rafter on the road at Messmer Stadium. Unfortunately, the club fell 1-0. Three days later the South Select took on their cross town rivals the Texas Titans grabbing their first win on the season winning 4-1. The Houston South Select currently sit in 6th place of the Southwest-South Division with a record of 1-6-1 with 4 points.
