Pick the Houston Dynamo Starting XI against FC Dallas

What starting XI should Wilmer Cabrera use to help the Dynamo take the lead in the Texas Derby?

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Los Angeles Galaxy Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It seems like the Houston Dynamo have been doing plenty of traveling the past few weeks. The last home game the Dynamo played was May 31st against Real Salt Lake where they came up with a 5-1 win. While the team has found some success on the road in a US Open Cup victory and a 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy, for most of us we’ve all circled the game the Dynamo will play Friday, June 23rd. That’s because they’ll face their instate rivals FC Dallas in a huge Texas Derby. This is the only time the Dynamo will face FCD in Houston this year and when the two sides met in Frisco, TX earlier this season things escalated as FCD imposed sanctions to Dynamo supporter groups. Fans will need to come out in force to show their support for their club and help continue our fine form at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Last Sunday when the Dynamo faced LA, Wilmer Cabrera utilized a mostly full squad in the Dynamo’s draw. The defense and midfield remained the usual group we’ve come to expect start games while up top he opted to play Romell Quioto, Cubo Torres, and Mauro Manotas. Alberth Elis did feature for the 2nd half as a halftime substitute for Quioto, but I would expect the trio of Quioto, Torres, and Elis to get the start against Dallas with Manotas being an early substitute. Quioto did come off early so Manotas could get the start, but I have not heard anything injury related about Quioto’s status as I’m writing this. Alex Lima also came off early, but I would also expect him to get the start. If he were not able to start then Oscar Boniek Garcia should get the nod. Another player who may not feature is DaMarcus Beasley. He picked up an injury in LA so Cabrera may want to rest the USMNT veteran. If that were the case then Dylan Remick will start at left back who has done well in Beasley’s place on several occasions.

The Dynamo do have US Open Cup next Wednesday when they host Sporting Kansas City before traveling to Colorado on Saturday which could impact some lineup decisions against Dallas. However, Cabrera knows the importance of this match and he will probably utilize a reserve-heavy XI against SKC so I think he goes with his strongest group, but he could be thinking ahead.
