Pick the Houston Dynamo Starting XI against the Colorado Rapids

Who do you want to see start against the Colorado Rapids?

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Houston Dynamo Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Dynamo will be playing in their 3rd game in 9 days with some key players out with their national team. After a draw with FC Dallas at home and a US Open Cup loss to Sporting Kansas City, the Dynamo are hoping to move on and finally break their winless streak on the road when they travel to Commerce City, Colorado to play the Rapids. In the Dynamo’s last away fixture, the club should have earned the win, but a controversial stoppage time equalizer by the LA Galaxy reduced the potential win to a draw. Meanwhile the Colorado Rapids have not looked like the club that finished 2nd place in the league last season as they currently sit in the bottom of the Western Conference. The Dynamo, despite being shorthanded, should capitalize on their opponents who have scored half the goals the Dynamo have.

While both clubs have had midweek US Open Cup games this past week, the Dynamo rested most of their 1st team players in the 0-2 loss to SKC. This should mean that most of the team is fresh and ready to compete on the road. There will be some players that are unable and others that are unlikely to feature in this game. DaMarcus Beasley is currently listed out on the injury report with a thigh injury and while he could end up traveling, I would expect Dylan Remick to start the game at left back despite going the full 90 in the Open Cup match. Forwards Romell Quioto and Alberth Elis are currently with the Honduran National team and will not be with the Dynamo. Mauro Manotas, Cubo Torres, and Andrew Wenger would be my bet to start up top against the Rapids. Wenger started the match against SKC, but left relatively early into the 2nd half so he should be good to start.

In the midfield I would anticipate Alex Lima, Juan David Cabezas, and Ricardo Clark to be back in the starting lineup, although should Alex not be ready to start after the midweek game I would pick Oscar Boniek Garcia to start in the LM/LCM role. Defensively Adolfo Machado and Leonardo should be back to start in central defense with A. J. DeLaGarza at RB and Remick at LB.

My Projected Starting Lineup

The Dynamo do have a game July 5th, a Wednesday, so some players like Alex may get more of a rest than others. The team will get a bit of a schedule break after that with their next game not coming until July 19th…another Wednesday in a double game week. At least they’ll get some time off.
