Recapping Houston local soccer action for 6/26-7/3

Another loaded soccer week for the Houston area. The Dutch Lions of the NPSL rolled to another win and the Houston Aces of the UWS win their second in a row.

Houston Dutch Lions F.C.

The Dutch Lions played host to the Shreveport Rafters this past Saturday night in Conroe. Needing to add another three point to help their playoff push, the Lions were looking to win. Things started off a little shaky when in the 30’ Shreveport jumped on the board first with a goal from Jackson Darnell. After, settling in the Lions found their game and scored ten minutes later with a goal from Jose Pablo Covarrubias in the 40’. With the score tied 1-1 at the half the Lions needed to come out and shut down the Rafters early. As the minutes ticked away the Houston was creating chances without breaking through until the 87’ with Archie Massen scoring the go ahead goal to put the Lions up 2-1. After the win the Lions still hold on to first place of the Lone Star Conference Division with a record of 6-1-2 and 20 points with one match left to play.

After losing last week to the Shreveport Rafter, the Regals were looking to right the ship as the played host to the Fort Worth Vaqueros this past Saturday. It was a fast start for Fort Worth who scored first when Matthew Rochowski hit the back of the net in the 5’. The Vaqueros were not going to make it easy for the Regals. The scored again in the 87’ when Harris Partain scored putting the Fort Worth side up 2-0. As time ticked away the Regals did manage to take away the clean sheet when in the 89’ Oscar Roque scored. The Regals loss 2-1. After that match the Regals sit 5th in the Lone Star Conference Division with a record of 2-5-2 and 8 points with one match left to play.

It was another strong week for the Cavalry who won two straight this past week. The first match saw them take on FC Cleburne last Wednesday. This match was all Brazos Valley with goals coming from Robert Hernandez (34’), Matt Dorsey (86’), Christian Molina (90’), and Elochukwu Ozumba (90’+1). The final was 4-1 on favor of the Cavalry.

After the big win versus Cleburne the Cavalry traveled down to Houston to take on Houston F.C. It was much of the same as the last match which saw Brazos Valley net 3 goals. Those goals coming from Elochukwu Ozumba (19’), Aneikan William (25’), and Robert Hernandez (54’). At the final whistle the Cavalry win 3-1. After these two matches the Brazos Valley Cavalry F.C. sit 3rd in the Mid South Division with a record of 6-5-1 and 19 points.

Houston Aces

After needing to grab a much needed win the Houston Aces did just that when the took on the Real Salt Lake Women Saturday night. Things did get a little scary when Salt Lake scored 3 straight near the end of the match to make the final 4-3 in favor of the Aces. Goals for the Aces were scored by Tatiana Ariza (22’, 58’), Mariana Diaz Leal (25’), and Natalia Ariza (29’). With that win the Aces sit 4th in the West with a record of 2-3-1 and 7 points with 3 matches left.
