Shea Groom strikes again!
FC Kansas City defeated the Houston Dash 1-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday night. In a match that saw both sides endure lackluster performances in the final third, Kansas City striker Shea Groom headed home the lone goal and game winner in the 83rd minute. Becky Sauerbrunn played a left-footed cross to the far post, Groom rose above Cami Levin and headed the ball past a frozen Jane Campbell.

Houston was unable to provide any sort consistent attack against Kansas City. Rachel Daly provided Houston’s best opportunity of the night with a 1v1 attempt on goal in the 75th minute. Andressa played Daly behind FCKC’s backline with a perfectly-weighted through ball, but Nicole Barnhart came out to the top of the 18-yard-box and made a leg save on Daly’s attempt on goal.

Carli Lloyd went down with an apparent left ankle injury in the 25th minute. The Dash captain landed awkwardly on her ankle after a header attempt. Lloyd was later replaced by Cari Roccaro in the 33rd minute.
Groom missed a chance to grab the lead for the FCKC in the 51st minute. She received a pass in front of goal but skied her first-time strike from point-blank range far over the crossbar.
Groom has a history against the Dash. She scored FCKC’s only goal in the club’s 2-1 loss to the Dash on July 2. The victory marked FCKC’s first win since May and Brittany Taylor’s 100th career NWSL regular season game.
With the loss, Houston remains in seventh place with a 6-9-2 record. The Dash will look to rebound next week as the club face off against the Boston Breakers on the road at Jordan Field on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled at 6:30 CT.
