The Houston Dash are set to ‘host’ the North Carolina Courage on Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled to take place back when Hurricane Harvey hit and postponed until a later date. While both teams playoff status is set the outcome of the game still has bearing on final standings.
The Houston Dash are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Red Stars. The Dash were down 2-0 before they were able to get on the score board. Amber Brooks scored her first goal of the season when she converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute. After Brooks was called for a handball Christen Press converted the penalty kick to give Chicago a 3-1 lead. Rachel Daly scored late in the game to bring the Dash with in one but the effort wasn’t enough to draw Chicago.
North Carolina Courage for their part are coming off a 1-1 draw against Sky Blue FC. The draw was the first draw of the season for the team. They have long clinched a spot in the playoffs and are now hoping to win the NWSL Shield.
These two teams met earlier this month which saw NCC get three points in the 1-0 game. The loss in that game officially eliminated the Dash from the 2017 playoffs.
The game was originally scheduled to take place at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium on August 27 but it will now be played at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, TX on Wednesday. Unfortunately for the Dash players (and their fans) the front office was unable to find a way for the team to play the game locally and eventually settled on playing the game in Edinburg. The stadium is home to Rio Grande Valley the Houston Dynamo’s USL affiliate and located over five hours from Houston.
