Pick the Houston Dynamo Starting XI against the LA Galaxy

How do you want to see the Houston Dynamo lineup when the LA Galaxy come to town?

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Los Angeles Galaxy Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Winless in five matches, the Houston Dynamo head home for a midweek match against the LA Galaxy following their 1-1 draw on the road against New York City FC. The Dynamo battled it out against the LA Galaxy in Los Angeles earlier this year in a 2-2 draw, although many fans will remember the Galaxy’s equalizing goal benig a little controversial.

Against NYCFC, Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera made sweeping changes to his starting XI likely in a move similar to his approach against the Vancouver Whitecaps last month. In that game he deliberately rested players and kept some players at home as he knew the Dynamo had a double game week coming up. The same is likely the case here with the LA Galaxy coming to town Wednesday and Minnesota United FC coming to BBVA Compass Stadium Saturday.

In his lineup against NYCFC we saw Alex Lima and Tomas Martinez up top with Mauro Manotas. In the midfield we had Oscar Boniek Garcia, Juan David Cabezas, and Vicente Sanchez. Sanchez turned out to be a difference maker with his creativity, vision, and effort on the defensive side of the ball.

So how will the Dynamo lineup against the Galaxy? If I had to guess, probably a little closer to they usually do. That would mean Romell Quioto, who was not even in the 18 man lineup against NYCFC, will be a lock to start since he is fully rested. Cubo Torres was on the bench in the last game, but did not feature and Alberth Elis was a substitute.

In the midfield, I think we’re back to Alex Lima or Tomas Martinez – probably Alex, Juan David Cabezas, and Ricardo Clark. I would love to see Vicente Sanchez over Alex or Martinez given how well he played against NYCFC, but that’s probably not going to happen. Oscar Boniek Garcia was injured in the last match so his availability isn’t known at this time, but I doubt he will start if he is.

Along the back line we’re likely to see DaMarcus Beasley, Leonardo, Adolfo Machado, and A.J. DeLaGarza with Tyler Deric in goal. Dylan Remick could get the start at LB over Beasley, but we haven’t seen Cabrera make this move unless Beasley is injured.
