Houston Dash vs FC Kansas City Preview: Dash have one last chance at 3 points

The Houston Dash close out 2017 against FC Kansas City.

The Houston Dash have one last chance at a win this season. Sunday, they will be in Kansas City to take on FC Kansas City in their last game of the 2017 season. The game was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, September 29, but was moved to Sunday.

Pride is the only thing left on the line for the these two teams this season. The Dash’s playoffless fate was sealed weeks ago as was FCKC’s. The Dash made a playoff push in July as they put together an undefeated streak but they were unable to sustain their success. After going on a losing streak the team has won just one game in their last eight.

Wednesday night the Dash lost to NWSL Shield winner North Carolina Courage 4-0. The game was their last ‘home’ game of the season but was played in Edinburg, TX. The Dash had no offensive (or defensive) reply to the Courage’s offense which scored two goals in the first half and two in the second. As has been the case for a number of games this season the Dash players weren’t able to get on the same page.

FCKC is coming off of a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Reign. Shea Groom scored the game’s only goal in the 23rd minute. Groom has scored five goals this season and sits one goal behind team goal leader Sydney Leroux.

While FCKC also missed out on the playoffs getting three points on Sunday will still be a tough challenge for the Dash. Then when the final whistle blows all eyes can turn towards 2018 and what needs to happen to make this team successful.
