The Houston Dynamo announced have signed 21-year old Alejandro Fuenmayor. The Venezuelan arrives on a full transfer from Carabobo FC in Venezuela’s first division. The center back has scored two goals since joining the club.

Carabobo ended the 2017 season in third place and conceded 13 goals in 17 games. Fuenmayor appeared in 21 games across all competitions in 2017. He has played in 72 games across all competitions since his debut in 2013. While he is primarily a center back he can also play at right back if need be.

His signing also deepens the center back position for the Dynamo as the team already has Leonardo, Philippe Senderos and Adolfo Machado on the roster. Leonardo started off 2017 great but faded towards the end of the season. Machado had the stronger 2017 season, but he will be heading to Russia for the World Cup to play for Panama. While MLS has a scheduled break for the group stages of the tournament, the Dynamo have a game on June 23 so even if Panama doesn’t make it past the group stage it is hard to see him returning in time to start on the backline.

With signing Fuenmayor becomes eigth player to occupy an international slot on the roster.
