It appears, at least for now, that Cubo Torres will remain with the Houston Dynamo after negotiating with Liga MX side Veracruz for the striker fell through. The two clubs had been in talks the last few days and it seems that Cubo’s salary demands may be the culprit for the deal not going through.

Cubo has been a hit or miss feature during his time in Houston. It took him a long time to find his form, but he finally found it early in the 2017 campaign with the Dynamo’s new Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. He had lost weight during the offseason and seemed to have improved many other areas of his game, but a scoring slump later in the year saw Cabrera favor Mauro Manotas in the starting position over Cubo. The Cubo vs. Manotas debate is one that is hardly settled between Dynamo fans and even Cabrera himself as he seemingly alternated starting the two during the playoffs.
With the attacking options the Dynamo currently possess, Cubo is expendable, especially given his form at the moment. Still, we know that Cubo can thrive in a Wilmer Cabrera run team, but he will need to improve because – as I’m sure he knows, Manotas is right there with him.
The offseason is still in full swing and we should have a better picture of the main starting group as the roster fills out. It’s still possible for Cubo to be moved somewhere before the start of the next season, but don’t be surprised to see more Cubo vs. Manotas debates in 2018.
