Goalkeeper Michael Nelson was selected with the Dynamo’s first round draft pick, the twentieth overall, and he’s shown well in his preseason minutes. The SMU product and Houston native has shown a high comfort level and has commanded the defensive line well. It’s expected for him to be the third string goalkeeper behind Chris Seitz and Joe Willis who should be able to help him acclimate to MLS with their wealth of experience in the league.
Mac Steeves, the Providence College product, was selected by the Dynamo in the second round and was taken forty third overall. Steeves has impressed in his preseason minutes as well, notching three goals in give preseason appearances. Steeves has a chance to see minutes as he plays as a true center forward.
It will be nice to see how these players can develop and if they will see time with Rio Grande Valley Toros FC. Both looked very comfortable and ready for a step up in competition during preseason.
