On Monday, the Houston Dash announced their roster to start 2018. The team has nine players returning from last season. Vera Pauw, the team’s new head coach, has brought in a number of new international players for a club total of six players occupying international roster spots.
Glaringly absent from the Houston Dash roster is Christen Press who the team had acquired during a blockbuster trade at this year’s college draft from the Chicago Red Stars. The team made the trade without talking with Press and recently it came out that the USWNT star has no interest in playing in Houston. Per the team’s roster release she has not reported to the team and does not against the active roster.
While the Press debacle will be the headline for the Dash’s off season the roster reveals a number of head scratching moves by the team. Just a month ago the team traded a draft pick for Tiffany Weimer, however, she is not listed on the roster and it appears she has been waived though she was not mentioned in the team release. The team did say that it had waved Camille Levin and Cari Roccaro. Levin had already announced that she will be headed overseas to play soccer. Also not signed are any of the Dash’s draft picks from this year’s draft.
The Dash kick off their season against the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday at BBVA Compass Stadium.
